The severity can vary from mild, chronic, suffering to actual death. No one has quite figured out what causes the more severe cases, but poor immune systems, overworking, stress, and other illness have all been shown to make it worse. Carla’s case is on the more severe side, causing him extreme pain and exhaustion, as well as a host of other symptoms, including dark, painful, bruise-like spots appearing on his body and wings. There are some treatments, but none are truly effective, and nothing yet has been found to cure it. The only thing to do that really helps anything is to reduce stress and strain and hope the symptoms clear up for a while.
