I have a few questions about the Pet AU if it’s not too much trouble to answer >u< Are pets able to speak? Or do most of them have some sort of impediment like canon Azusa? What do they look like, compared to their canon counterparts? Are they smaller due to mistreatment and being malnourished? Are they trained to be able to do basic things, like brush their hair or use the bathroom? Do they have hunched postures? What does it take for a human to adopt a pet?

Admin Mawile: (๑✧◡✧๑) These are some good questions.

-Yes, they are able to speak, but their vocabularies are rather small, more so for the ones who haven’t been raised as well. Carla and Shin are by far the most well educated, and can speak almost as well as humans. The Sakamakis are better than most, but still stunted compared to a person. The Mukamis only know basic language.

-Vampires are tough enough to withstand the poor care fairly well, and are nowhere near as malnourished and small as a human would be. They are still slightly smaller and much thinner than canon, but mostly they’re the same.

-Pets are trained to use basic facilities, but whether or not they’re allowed to use them is up to the owner. Better quality pets are always better trained, but it’s the owner’s decision how much independence they’ll be allotted. Some pets are allowed to use a toilet like a human, some are forced outside like dogs. Some have regular grooming as part of their routine, some are left to fend for themselves. Low quality vampires like the Mukamis may not be trained as well, though.

-Typically, pets aren’t allowed to stand. It’s considered rude to be physically higher than an owner, so pets are taught to crawl and never raise themselves above a human. Many of them, especially the older ones, have difficulty standing up straight, and some don’t know how to stand or walk on two legs. Crawling posture is trained to be perfect.

-It depends on the quality of the pet. Purebreds and fancy varieties like First Bloods can cost massive amounts and require excessive paperwork. Low quality pets are as easy to get as a cat or dog. There are very few regulations on pet care, and it’s even easier to abuse or neglect a pet once it’s owned.
