-For once, Reiji had managed to fall asleep on the couch, dozing off in the middle of studying some ridiculously thick textbook.
At first, it had been a happy scene, watching the normally uptight child relax for once, but the longer you watched, the more you started to see how his eyes twitched and his expression turned to something tense.
Within minutes, he was tossing and turning, little hands clenching in his blanket so hard the knuckles turned white.
It was too painful to even watch..
You sat down next to him, carefully, quietly, praying he wouldn’t startle awake, and ran one gentle hand down his thin back. Reiji whimpered in his sleep, leaning into the touch. He was so far lost in the dream that pride meant nothing, only seeking the comfort he so desperately needed.
Eventually, as you stayed by his side, the tension started to fade. His hands relaxed their grip, his face went slack, and you breathed a sigh of relief.
This nightmare was over, and Reiji was sleeping peacefully again.
