Besides a whole lot of patience, what are the best ways for an owner to take care of pet au Kou?

Admin Mawile: (◡‿◡  )

-Until he’s used to you, it’s better to leave him alone. You’ll probably want to comfort and take care of him, but as long as he’s still afraid of you, your presence is just one more thing to fear. Stay distant, yet caring for at least a couple months, providing basic care without trying to get in his space or force him to open up. The more you press, the more he’ll close up and hide.

-Once he does trust you to some degree, you can get closer, but never force anything that he doesn’t want. Ask permission, pay attention to his body language, and do not get closer or more aggressive than he admits to wanting. If you startle him, it will push back your progress by weeks, so take it slow and make sure he’s actually okay with what you do.

-Finally, when he’s truly comfortable with your presence, feel free to coddle him to the max. All the attention, nice food, and pretty things you can give him will be extremely welcome, and he turns horribly needy once he knows you’re someone he can trust. Take new things slowly, still, and pay attention to what scares him, and he’ll eventually relax.

Pet AU: the owner has a friend or two over and they fawn over the boys and the owner boasts about how great they are~ (your stuff is 👌👌👌, some high quality content right here)

Admin Mawile:ヾ(。・ω・。)

Shuu:

-The attention makes him rather nervous, but at least none of you seem unhappy. He’ll move however you want him to to show off, even if all he wants to do is find somewhere to hide from the gaze of so many people. Since you’ve told him to stay, he doesn’t have much of a choice.

Reiji:

-He’s absolutely preening, so proud of himself you can almost see it. The attention and praise goes right to his head, and he’s rather likely to make some stupid mistake just because he’s so preoccupied. He’ll panic if he messes up at all, afraid that all of you will turn on him for it.

Ayato:

-While all the praise is inflating his ego, he can’t help but be worried with so many humans so close. Pleasing one owner is bad enough, what if he does something wrong and makes all of you mad? Or what if you all want something different and it’s impossible to keep up?

Kanato:

-Multiple people tend to make him panic, and while so far you’re all praising him, he’s extremely nervous over what that might turn into. He winds up just going limp and taking the praise, too afraid to function beyond basic responses to any direct commands you give.

Laito:

-One owner makes him nervous enough, but friends of one to please and impress has him all but panicking. Ideas of how you might decide to use him won’t leave his head, and it’s all he can do not to shut down and hide. He puts on an act of good behavior, but you can tell that he’s afraid.

Subaru:

-He’s very obviously distressed by the amount of people. He’s dangerous, so what if he slips and hurts someone? Staying almost perfectly still, you can actually see him trying not to move or touch anyone. His posture is as submissive as it gets, ducked down and trying to be small.

Ruki:

-Despite not liking to let humans see any true emotion from him, it’s impossible to disguise how happy he is at being praised. It’s a little uncomfortable to have so many humans so close, but the boost to his ego might just be worth the brief period of nervousness and tension.

Kou:

-If just you get close to him he all but panics. Even having friends in the house is going to terrify him, and having them actually try to get close to him is going to end horribly. In an absolute panic, he flees and finds somewhere to hide, almost sick over what you might do to him now.

Yuuma:

-It’s definitely uncomfortable to have multiple humans fawning over him, and the only real comfort is that none of you seem mad. If he messes up, though, all of you could turn on him in a second, and you can literally see his muscles shake as he fights to stay still and not displease you.

Azusa:

-While he always wants to please you, that many important humans getting so close just makes him nervous. He can’t help but flinch away a little, terrified yet hopeful that one of you will punish him. The near promise of pain has him jittery with nerves, delighted yet shivering in fear.

Carla:

-The feeling of being examined by humans is a very familiar one, and he’s more than used to being praised for his looks and good breeding. You and your friends have better intentions than most, and his only worry is that a flare up of his illness will make you look bad in front of them.

Shin:

-He’s rather used to humans crowding around and fussing over him, and every time, it just makes him feel like biting them. He hates the feeling of being pressed in on from every side, observed like some kind of specimen for any wrong move he might even think to make.

Are pet au vampires forced to be awake during the day?

Admin Mawile:( ̄~ ̄;)

-Yes, but by now, vampires have been bred to be much less nocturnal. Generations of forcing them to adhere to human schedules have all but erased the need to sleep during the day, and it’s only vaguely uncomfortable to push aside instinct and sleep when they’re told. The worst part is how bright sunlight is on sensitive eyes, and the unconscious desire to gravitate to dark places.

So for pet au, would you say the best way to take care of the pets if you want them to be as stable and healthy as possible is to treat them as pets? It seems they tend to freak out if you treat them well but treat them more as a roommate than a pet, since that’s all they’ve been taught they are. I think it varies (Shu probably is the one who would prefer to be more allowed to do anything he wants), but for mental well being would treating them as actual pets be the best course of action?

Admin Mawile: (‘~`;)

-Yeah, it might be better to stick to treating them like pets. If you’re going to introduce more human-like behavior, you have to do it very slowly. Being a pet is their entire world view, and changing any of that too quickly is just cruel. It’s removing the one thing they’ve been able to rely on for security and self worth, and turning into something totally different all at once. If you want to be as kind as you can, start by being a gentle owner, and move on to treating them like people only once they’re secure in their place with you.

Can you do a Pet Au of how they would all think/ react to kids trying to play with them and pet them and give them attention like regular pets such as dogs?

Admin Mawile: (^・ω・^ ) Awww~

Shuu:

-He doesn’t really mind kids getting close, even if humans make him a bit nervous. The pets are kind of nice, and maybe, if he gets really lucky, someone’s parents will cave and buy him.

Reiji:

-It would be preferable not to have his hair messed and sticky hands put all over him, but for the sake of being a proper, docile pet, he takes the attention and pretends to enjoy it.

Ayato:

-The small humans are the fun ones! They don’t mind petting him, can’t hit very hard, and sometimes their parents give in and look at the pets that are up for adoption. None of them have ever wanted him, though…

Kanato:

-Small humans are sticky and loud and he wouldn’t like them at all, if it wasn’t for the fact that they offer attention. He’ll stay still for petting, so long as there’s a chance he might appeal to a potential owner for it.

Laito:

-Humans being near him, even the small ones, make him very, very nervous. He knows that they’re all going to grow up to be no different than the ones who have done nothing but terrorize him.

Subaru:

-If adult humans aren’t safe near him, than the child ones are really in danger. The attention is wonderful, but he’s just terrified that he’s going to slip up and do something to hurt one of them.

Ruki:

-As nice as it is to have someone not hate him, humans are nothing but trouble for strays. Their parents would gladly turn in him and his brothers, and at the very least be angry that a stray came close to their children.

Kou:

-Even small humans send him into a panic. All he can see is the ones that hurt him; any kind of hand reaching toward him is nothing but a threat. He can’t stand to be near humans of any kind.

Yuuma:

-It’s kind of dangerous to let any human get close to them, but the temptation of attention and praise is hard to resist. Kids have small, warm hands, and they’re not afraid of him just because he’s big.

Azusa:

-He’d love the attention from someone, even a slight idea of what it would like to be someone’s pet, but any human coming too close turns him shivery and afraid. He loves pain, but is terrified of rejection.

Carla:

-There are always children at shows who want to touch him. He’s had enough sticky hands in his hair, or pulling at his clothes to be very accustomed to small humans getting in his space.

Shin:

-He’s pretty used to having kids messing with him, but can’t help but be annoyed by it. They remind him so much of his first owner, and he knows they have just the same capability for cruelty.

The ancient Romans used to have their more well educated slaves (mostly Greeks) act as private teachers for their children and personal doctors. You think that’d be a possible future for Reiji in the pet au?

Admin Mawile: o(`・∀・´)○

-Oh absolutely!! Some pets are given better treatment than others, and one as obedient and intelligent as Reiji would definitely have a chance at a job like that. Especially if there was a trend in letting pets have jobs like that, it would definitely be a possibility. However, he’s not exactly educated as it is, and someone would first have to take the time to teach him.

Pet AU, their reactions to bath time?

Admin Mawile: (゚∀゚ )

Shuu: He’ll put up with almost anything to avoid punishment. If staying still and getting a bath is what it takes, he might even be able to nap during it.

Reiji: Not only is he eager to obey a direct command from you, actually being clean is so much better than the filth some pets are left in.

Ayato: He doesn’t really like baths, but it’s still better than risking making you angry. At least you bother to keep the water warm.

Kanato: Being clean and taken care of is a privilege only owned pets get. He’ll gladly accept any care you offer just because of that.

Laito: He hates having to spend time so close to a human, but the temptation of being clean wins out over his worry.

Subaru: Back when he was deemed unsafe to sell, baths meant being sprayed down with a hose. This is much nicer than that.

Ruki: As much as he dislikes making himself so vulnerable, it’s a massive relief to be able to stay clean instead of living in filth.

Kou: If he can calm down long enough to let you close, warm water and clean scars will do him a world of good, about as close to relaxed as he gets.

Yuuma: He’s not particularly fond of baths, but compared to the nasty places he’s lived before, it’s worth having to put up with being damp.

Azusa: Any attention from you is something to be grateful for. You could scald him or use ice water and he’d still be happy about it.

Carla: He’s rather fastidious about staying clean, especially after flare ups of his illness. Grooming of any kind is welcome.

Shin: Baths may be one of his greatest joys. It’s hard to keep him out of them once you’ve offered, especially if you have warm water.

some sad headcanons about reiji, kou, and laito for the pet!au?

Admin Mawile: (ц`ω´ц*) I get too much joy out of this type of angst~

Reiji:

-His entire self worth centers around earning an owner. If he’s not good enough to be adopted, than he’s better off dead. No one will ever want him if he can’t please them, and he’s devoted his entire being to becoming the most obedient, well-behaved pet imaginable.

-Being worthless is his ultimate fear, and anything that even hints at it upsets him horribly. If one of his more troubled brothers got adopted before him, or if an owner ever returned him or threw him away, he would shut down, unable to handle the idea that he has no value.

Kou:

-He was rented out to torture at the shelter, and bears numerous scars from that time. Despite being small and weak, he was defanged for no reason other than the patrons entertainment, and has permanent marks from everything from knife wounds to burns, severe enough to never fully heal.

-Because of how useless he is to his brothers, he has strongly considered just ending his own life and getting out of their way. All he can do is stayed curled up and fighting off nightmares, unable to even function from the trauma haunting him, so they’d have to be better off without him.

Laito:

-Although he’d sooner die than mention it to anyone, he was used as a certain type of pet for a while. While he was still cute enough to be profitable, his breeder sought out some extra money from the practice, which went on for a couple years until age took away his appeal.

-He is entirely unable to trust humans, and believes them all to be only out for their own benefit. Even an owner would only keep him until he lost his worth, and none of them would ever care about hum beyond their own happiness. As soon as he loses his worth, they’d turn on him.

Pet au scenario where shu Yuma ruki Subaru master that is very kind and has all the boys trust what would they do if they got drunk and deeply kisses them

Admin Mawile:「(°ヘ°) That’s really not a good idea. Also, warning for misunderstood consent issues. Pets don’t understand that they can say no.

Shuu:

-And here he’d really been starting to think you’d be one of the nice ones.

You had been such a kind owner so far, never going out of your way to hurt him. He’d honestly been starting to believe that it would stay that way.

As pretty as he was, that kind of pet had always been a future, and, drunk or not, now that you were showing interest he had no choice but to give in and let you do what you wanted.

Leaning into the kiss, being careful not to scrape you with his fangs, he silently mourned the loss of what might have been a good home.

Yuuma:

-With his size, he hadn’t expected to be a desirable pet.

That was always an option for the pretty ones, but he’d thought he’d be safe from it. You’d been so nice too, a better owner than he’d ever dreamed of; it made it all the worse that you were turning on him now.

It took everything he had not to pull back and flee. If he made you angry now, there would be no telling what you’d get angry enough to do.

So all he could do was hold still and try to panic, eyes closing in terror as his hands clenched at his sides.

Ruki:

-Though this had always been something to expect, you honestly hadn’t seemed the type to do it.

He should have known better. No human ever stayed so kind. It only made sense that you’d finally turn on him and become like all the rest. He couldn’t help the sickening sense of betrayal.

The nausea didn’t fade, even as leaned in to meet your kiss, stomach churning and body shaking with nerves.

This was exactly what he’d wanted to avoid.

Subaru:

-He flinched back almost immediately when your lips touched his, panicking for just a moment before remembering his place.

If you really wanted him for that, violent and disobedient as he’d always been, he had no room to deny you. Leaning in and accepting the kiss was all he could do, careful of the tender spots where fangs had once been.

It was probably too much to ask, but hopefully you wouldn’t keep wanting this. The closeness was already so terrifying.

Pretending to like more would be misery.

This is for the Pet Au what would they do if there owner got sick? ( Btw love your blog)

Admin Mawile: ( ゚д゚) Since vampires are ridiculously hard to kill, they don’t really understand human illness. Sick=dying is pretty much how they see humans.

Shuu:

-He has little idea what to do for a sick human, and assumes that you’ll either get well on your own or leave him behind. Hopefully, if something does happen to you, he won’t end up with anyone bad.

Reiji:

-While medicine is far beyond his training, losing an owner is unthinkable. If you don’t seek sufficient treatment on your own, he may even risk punishment and beg other humans to fix you.

Ayato:

-It’s terrifying to think that he may lose the only human who ever bothered with him, and even worse that he might be out of a home. He can’t help but hover near your bedside, horribly worried.

Kanato:

-While he normally stays close to you, the illness drives him to be even more extreme. He has to be watching you at all times, or you could pass away and leave him behind at any moment.

Laito:

-Of course, now that he finally has a decent home, you’re going to be leaving him. He quickly accepts the idea that you’re going to die, and turns distant and miserable from fear of losing his home.

Subaru:

-Humans are fragile anyway, a sick one must be even more so. He’s afraid to even approach you for fear of somehow making things worse, and huddles up somewhere far away until you’re well.

Ruki:

-He has a slightly better understanding of human illnesses not being necessarily fatal, but feels sick with worry all the same. If something happened to you, he’d never get another chance at a home.

Kou:

-You seem a bit less intimidating when bedridden, and he may creep close enough to check how sick you really are. A human dying should be a good thing, but for some reason he only feels fear.

Yuuma:

-There should be something he can do, right? If you die, he’ll be out of a home all over again, and while he desperately wants to do something to help, human medicine is completely unknown to him.

Azusa:

-He hardly understands that you’re ill, and curls up near you like nothing’s wrong. The only thing he notices is that you should be reacting in some way to his closeness, whether by praising or punishing him.

Carla:

-He can’t help but sympathize a bit about your illness. What you have most likely isn’t fatal, but the image of dying from the same cause as an owner sticks in his head all the same.

Shin:

-If something happens to you, he could wind up with an awful owner next time, so you can’t get any worse. You absolutely have to get well, and he’s rather obviously near panicked with worry.
