-Normally, exotic pets are removed from their mothers as soon as they can survive on their own. No one wants them to get attached, after all. Subaru’s mother had been prone to fits for a while, streaks of acting out in which she lashed out at not only her owners, but herself. A vet suggested that having one of her children around as a sort of “comfort object” might help calm her (the vet also said that her fits were likely caused by over breeding, but no one listened to that). So Subaru spent a long portion of his childhood with Christa, in an attempt to even out her behavior and keep both the owners and their future profits safe. But just as the owners feared, a strong attachment formed between the mother and child, and when Subaru was eventually taken away, both of them started to act out again, this time out of stress from being separated from the only family they had ever known.
