-The gang was mostly made up of children with no other place to go. Orphans, run aways, children not wanted by their families; the gang, like many of its kind, was considered a last resort for kids with no other options. All of the members came from various painful pasts, and they managed to find some semblance of family in each other, which was, in many cases, the last option they had for someone on their side.
-The kids in the gang ranged in age from teenagers like Lucks to kids as young as eight. It would have been unwise to discriminate against anyone who wanted to be loyal to them, so the gang accepted even younger kids who needed a place to belong. It was all too common for children with no other place to go to join gangs of other kids, and even the youngest knew that, if they were loyal, they could have somewhere to belong.
-Gangs like this one were generally hated by adults, and treaded a fine line between being allowed to exist and being wiped out. They could continue to live so long as they didn’t cause too much trouble… but unfortunately, “trouble” often included things the kids had to do just to live. It would be all too easy for the adults to decide that the gang was worth being destroyed.
